One of Peter Welch's most striking characteristics is how well he listens. I suspect over time this one trait will lead him to the halls of greatness as a Congressman and perhaps Senator down the road (ok, ok, one race at a time...)
I've met many state and federal politicians over the years, and few really want to listen and learn as much as Welch does. It is very commendable. If you haven't met him, I suggest trying to do so in the next sixty days if you are from the area.
Because of this strength, even if you don't agree with Welch on every issue, you feel like he is at least hearing your point. This is especially important as we try to move the Democratic Party away from single-issue advocacy. It makes it much easier to support leaders who don't always agree with us if we at least feel like they are careful listening to our arguments.
Again, try to get out and meet Welch in person if you can. It's well worth it.
