I just got back from a breakfast event/fundraiser hosted by Welch, featuring Senator Dodd. Dodd was a fluent speaker who really had his facts down. Here are a few interesting ones from his talk:
-- The estate tax cuts that the Republicans wanted to tie to the minimum wage bill would have given $756 Billion to only 8,000 families in the United States over the course of their existence.
-- The GOP-controlled Senate has given itself salary raises per senator totaling $31,000 over the past ten years, yet hasn't risen the minimum wage once.
-- He made an interesting point that Condi Rice does not want Senators meeting with or talking to leaders such as Assad, given that they are not friends of the U.S. As Dodd said, "what are we supposed to do, just negotiate with our friends?"
Tomorrow I am doing an exclusive interview with Eric Davis, a professor of political science, on the Welch race. Eric is very astute regarding Vermont political campaigns and trends. Check back tomorrow evening to see the results.
